Review: Redeemable: A Memoir of Darkness and Hope

Redeemable: A Memoir of Darkness and Hope Redeemable: A Memoir of Darkness and Hope by Erwin James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An honest and eye-opening account of a lad growing up rough and the dangerous road it takes him on.
Losing his mother was a pivotal point in a young Erwin's life. It changed his relationship with his father and brought out the worst in his father. Erwin and his sister being moved from one house to another and eventually being separated had a negative effect on Erwin and he began to stray from the right side of the law.

The fact that Erwin gives an honest view of his criminal activity and the attitude he had, never believing that these minor offenses would hurt anyone. It was only after his sessions with Joan that he started to understand the downward steppingstones of his life.
Having had an alcoholic father myself I can relate to many of the memories Erwin shares about his father. However trying to understand the choices he made is still difficult, though he indicates the understanding that they were his choices and he could have chosen a different path.

I enjoyed reading about how Erwin turned his life around, even if it took the entire incarceration. It truly gives an insight into the life of the not so blessed youth.
In some ways, Erwin's story has many similarities of another Scottish lad in Jimmy Barnes, told by him in Working Class Boy and Working Class Man.

Review: A Maiden's Grave

A Maiden's Grave A Maiden's Grave by Jeffery Deaver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A twist I knew would come but it still surprised me all the same. A story that draws you in, will Potter save them? Being a negotiator in a situation like this would be a tough one, the calmness, and coldness that Art displays can be deceiving. Great writing by Deaver, gets you emotionally involved in the safety of the hostages.

Review: Heir of Fire

Heir of Fire Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am loving the development of Aelin/Celaena. The growth of this character keeps you wanting to more. The introduction of Rowan and how their friendship and bond develops is a great way to lead into the next book.
It was heartbreaking reading about Dorian and the sadness that he endures along with Chaol. I am looking forward to finding out if the Celaena/Chaol romance continues somewhere down the line.
The introduction of the witch covens and their storyline has me intrigued as to how they will be used or will they turn on the ones that employed them?

This is another great addition to the storyline, I look forward to book 4.

Review: The Money Honey

The Money Honey The Money Honey by Clarissa Rodgers-Briskleigh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A story of a broken dancer learning how to get through life. After a disaster in the theatre, Miranda jumps at a proposition to spend time with a wealthy man for money. She doesn't expect it to be as pleasant as it was. But as her life goes, disaster follows and she decides she needs to look out for number 1 in this world and if that means using her body to get it so be it.

I enjoyed this novel, it is an intriguing but easy read, the part that surprised me was the multiple choice ending. I chose to read all 3 endings as they are all so different. I enjoyed Run and Enemy, but not so much Destiny. But this is something you will need to decide and judge for yourself.

Review: Lost Girls

Lost Girls Lost Girls by Graham Wilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I will admit it took me awhile to get into this book. I think that even though this can be read as a standalone it would be better to read the series in order. It will make this one easier to understand at the beginning. Once I got into the story however I couldn't put it down. Hearing the stories of how the girls met Mark and then 'disappeared' was enough to keep me glued to the pages. I won this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway and I am glad I had the chance to read it.
